Hey Chris, thanks for posting. I’m glad you got your phone connected.

I wasn’t aware that there were versions of the Prolific driver that don’t work for this, so that’s good to know.

Also good to know that MobiMB 3.6.x still supports this — and that the new release interfaces more smoothly than before. It’s nice when software actually gets *better* over time. That’s how it should be!

Thanks for your instructions on how to connect the Nokia
1680c-2 cellphone to a PC.

I tried using the latest version of the Prolific driver from
their website but it did NOT work for me. The driver you
link at: http://www.laverlochere.com DOES work. It is
an older version (2005).

For your information the latest version of mobimb is 3.6.x
and it works with the Nokia 1680c-2 phone. There is one
small change from your instructions. This version detects
the Prolific USB-serial convertor and includes that in the
list, so no need to select CA-42 cable connection.

Fuck Youtube. I appreciate that they have certain legal obligations under the ’safe harbor’ provision, but fuck them anyway.

They seem intent on transforming themselves into ‘old media’, so I’m just not going to make any effort with them any more. I don’t expect they’ll miss me, but if a few others do the same — a hundred million here, a hundred million there — then that 1-billion-hits-a-day thing might start to ring a little hollow. They can file it under ‘pyrrhic’.

Thanks for the heads up, but I still can’t get through it. I got as far as the black guy speaking, but that was as much as I could take. I just want to annihilate them all and whatever planet they came from.

And then wash my hands.

And then go somewhere and cry for a week.

Even the SWAT team version doesn’t work for me — they get there about 90 seconds too late.

Hmm, wait a minute — perhaps this is a job for FIGHTING COCKBOT!!…. (I just got the little guy up and running again this afternoon, and I’m reasonably confident that all the repairs will hold this time.)
